When asked to present the keynote at this year’s ONA Summit, Real Nurses, Real Solutions: Breakthrough Strategies in Oncology Nursing Practice, Anna Liza Rodriguez, MSN, MHA, RN, OCN, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President, Nursing and Patient Care Services at Fox Chase Cancer Center, had the Fox Chase nursing staff, support staff, and patients bring the theme to life in a heartfelt video demonstrating Fox Chase’s vision and values.
Rodriguez explains, “Current stressors for oncology nurses are many and real. But we have meaningful strategies that advance our profession and improve patient lives, ensuring that patient care is evidence-based, innovative, and compassionate.” Underscoring Rodriguez’s words throughout the keynote video, patients described Fox Chase nurses’ kindness, compassion, and professionalism as the major factors that enabled them to “get through” treatment emotionally and physically.
Likewise, after listening to the Fox Chase nursing staff illustrate their devotion to patient-family relationships by acting as support people, clinicians, and advocates, it’s clear that Fox Chase Nursing is more than a career; it’s a calling.
After the ONA Summit, the keynote video received rave reviews from Fox Chase nurses, ranging from “The video made me realize how proud I am to be a nurse here,” to “I just retired after 45 years, and it validates that my time and dedication were worth it because I made a difference in the lives of my patients and colleagues.”
“It is feedback like this from patients and staff alike that have enabled Fox Chase Cancer Center to achieve the distinction of earning their sixth consecutive Magnet® designation,” explains Rodriguez.
