Doximity Ask AI May Be Smart, but Trusted Answers Still Depend on Physicians Like Dr. Cohn

 

A longtime Doximity user, Joshua Cohn, MD, FPMRS, Associate Professor, Department of Urology, Fox Chase Cancer Center and Fox Chase – Temple Urologic Institute provider, had relied on the company’s dialer service for years. When Doximity introduced its evidence-based AI model, formerly known as DoximityGPT (now rebranded as Doximity Ask), he found the tool intuitive, helpful, and largely accurate. When Doximity invited respected specialists like Cohn to help review and refine its urology-related answers, he enthusiastically leaned into the project—work that earned him a Doxy Award at a 2026 Doximity Event.

For Doximity—the healthcare professional network leader—staying ahead of the booming AI clinical curve meant refining its own AI product, ensuring that even on a crowded playing field, Doximity Ask would be the gold standard for trust, reliability, and practicality in clinical settings.

When Cohn experimented with other AI services, he found that “on the surface, many were impressive. But in practice, their answers were bland, generic, and difficult to apply to real-world care, and often lacked the specificity because of concerns about liability—working best for questions covered by established clinical guidelines like specialized search engines. An example: for an ‘ask’ about a patient with low-risk bladder cancer, a physician can specify the last biopsy date and last surveillance cystoscopy in order to generate a timeline for the next cystoscopy. If the platform has direct access to AUA Guidelines, the answer is typically accurate and reliable.”

For the many clinical questions without clear guidelines, Cohn says the goal of improving Doximity Ask was not to remove caution, but to strike a balance between responsible, evidence-based answers and practical support for working physicians. Through Doximity’s PeerCheck™ Model, physicians like Cohn are part of the review process, helping close the gap between technical performance and clinical trust.

As some of the earliest Doximity Peer Check reviewers, Cohn and other physicians evaluated difficult clinical questions for which no formal guidelines exist. He said that in these cases, “it is essential to understand the sources behind the information, assess their reliability and potential bias, and apply scientific rigor to clinical recommendations.”
