Clinical Nurse Manager Tatiana Villamarin, BSN, RN, commands important roles within the world of the Fox Chase – Temple Urologic Institute: In one role, Villamarin serves as a high-level administrator-manager for two urology outpatient clinics, overseeing care and coordination for 80 to 100 patients every weekday.
In another world, Villamarin is strictly clinical-surgical, providing experienced nursing support for Jay Simhan, MD, FACS, Chair of the Department of Urology at Temple University Hospital and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and Director of Reconstruction at Fox Chase Cancer Center at the Urologic Institute. Simhan is a top specialist with whom Villamarin has worked for ten years.
Tatiana and her outpatient clinic urology team
“Our days at the outpatient clinics start early and end late,” explains Villamarin. “Our urology team includes six urologists covering the full spectrum of urologic care, three advanced practice providers, registered nurses, medical assistants and other essential staff. Every day is different and includes patient consultations, education, and post-op checkups. I make sure every member of our staff feels supported and has the updates and education they need to advance patient care—and their own professional growth. We’re always looking for ways to improve life for both patients and staff.”
“I knew from early on that nursing and caring for others was in my DNA. “When I’m in my med-surg role assisting Dr. Simhan in clinic, the cases are complex and require special knowledge and skill. Dr. Simhan is a renowned urologic expert in urethral reconstruction and prosthetic surgery, with a reputation that draws patients from across the United States and around the world. Individuals travel internationally—from countries such as the Dominican Republic, Russia, and many others—for his highly specialized expertise. It’s an exciting opportunity to work with someone of his caliber.
“My policy with patients and staff alike is ‘open door.’ If there’s an issue, come to talk to me. If there’s no issue, come talk to me anyway! Being present for the staff and the people who entrust us with their care means my total focus is on the individual in front of me so I can fully hear what they need and help them to the very best of my ability.
“The Urologic Institute is a truly special place—where world-class expertise, cutting-edge innovation, and compassionate care come together under one roof,” Villamarin says. “That’s driven by exceptional leadership at both the Institute and Fox Chase Cancer Center, who foster an environment where every team member can thrive and every patient receives the best possible care. It’s an honor to be part of a program that is not only leading in our field but also redefining what urologic care can be.”
